The story goes...

There’s a legend that appears to be rooted in truth and dates back to the year 1796. Apparently Napoleon was passing through Piovezzano, the village where the villa already stood – at the time it was known as Palazzo Marinelli.

Napoleon set up his headquarters here, and military records from the time report that he tied his horse to a vine in the villa’s courtyard.

This is the actual description of the scene, in the language of the time. “In the courtyard of Palazzo Marinelli, where he established his headquarters, I saw a vine clinging to the wall, and to its ancient and solid trunk Bonaparte, Massena and Moreau tied the reins of their horses on their return from repeated attacks in Rivoli upon the enemies of ourselves and of freedom, in 1796”.
